humanoid x is cpus deepest foray into detroit techno so far, from blixaboy aka mwanza dover texas based artist, friend of cygnus and very much part of the local electro scene. dover presents an album influenced by the pioneers of the hypnotic groove. on first pass you’ll find elements of krautrock through to the belleville three, all with finely crafted arrangements that reveal themselves in more detail on each listen. a cyberpunk theme runs throughout as blade runner-esque synths wash over the album evoking late night electric-city noodle restaurant contemplation. blixaboy has selected 4 of the more dj friendly tracks from the album for the vinyl e.p. treatment.

federico leocata is an italian audio-visual artist who has exhibited in athens, thessaloniki and catania. later expanding his art into the field of sound based analysis of the human psyche. first discovered by heinrich mueller (dopplereffekt, drexciya), federico released his first ep in 2010 for the belgian imprint wemè records, attracting further interest from labels like frustrated funk and last known trajectory.

previously half of pseudo-kitsch acid-electro force light year, and now gone solo, mikey melas aka jensen interceptor joins the binary cataloguing cpu with a perfectly formed electro cut. any artist who samples ghost in the shell, arguably one of the greatest anime films of all time, are all right by us. mikey does so to great effect on the big beat / trip hop tempo model 2029 , which sits alongside three unrelenting electro bass bin destroyers. mactavis being the toughest cut, utilising a fierce driving 808 with a robotic bassline interjecting throughout. electro is often overlooked for the club but it s obvious this e.p. was designed from the ground up to smash a big room. jensen interceptor m e.p. limited edition (300 copies worldwide) 12inch vinyl in shrink-wrapped printed sleeve with paper inner. includes microbial, minor arc, mactavis and model 2029.

high mobility weapons unit continues its exploration, entering an unknown solar system and landing on a desolate mining planet. the counter rockets ep is the second release on the imprint, drawing influences from heavier, lo-fi territories, whilst still maintaining hmwu s characteristic space techno sound. the a-side starts off with the title track, counter rockets , which is a dj tool that combines functional bleeps with machine processed percussion. a2 serves up abandoned interstellar tomb , a fusion of atmospheric deep space bass and jacking drum patterns. on the b-side, deep sea deposit kicks things off with a poly-woven synth line that contorts and shifts throughout the track. finally, excavation site rolls along with its muted melodies and haunting fx, all built above a floor of sub-bass.

jacking chicago tracks on this first ep by offenbach s freshmen am unit containing three original tracks plus a solid remix by lauer (one half of tuff city kids). a-sided gotta slow down and hold back are classic examples of dancefloor fillers while b-sided raw jam is a hard and super effective acid track that leaves no-one indifferent. the dub mix of gotta slow down by lauer is an oscillating interpretation of the original track with an efficient piano line! limited to 400 hand stamped and numbered copies!

a new long-form offering of poignant, isolationist machine music from secret boyfriend. eschewing the cryptic and compact song-sketches that characterised his 2013 blackest ever black lp, this is always where you’ve lived, ryan martin instead guides us through vast interior topographies and nerve-damaged ambiences that comfort and deceive like memory itself. the vinyl release includes a download code.

mikron are two english brothers, michael & ciaran corcoran, living in australia. following on from their impressive no correlation ep on the hacker & gesaffelstein s zone records in 2014, sleep paralysis brings a level of darkness to the cpu roster we ve not heard since the likes of source direct. harsh, hard hitting electro bass similar to that of black narcissus, overdriven, tape saturated 808 beats, with raw robotic funk leads seemingly conversing throughout.

high mobility weapons unit sets off from an unknown location on earth, making its maiden voyage beyond our solar system and towards a distant galaxy. the transverse velocity ep is the debut release on the self-titled imprint, serving up four original tracks that are heavily influenced by mechanical cycles and deep space concepts. the a-side kicks off with the eps title track transverse velocity, where an array of eroded satellite bleeps and waves loop together as the analogue low-end pulsates rhythmically below. in wave 102 the bleeps are detuned and erratically timed, with a glitchy tape delay unit modulating them throughout the track. the saturated 808 kick drum and processed percussion are given a functional structure, allowing the bleeps to take centre stage. on the b-side, both cycle 01 and astronomy tool serve as stripped-back percussive dj tools. cycle 01 rolls along with its hollow, muted polyrhythmic stab line, whilst astronomy tool drives forward with an effective, crystalline synth hit. mastered by black monolith studios.

bedfords finest d-malice returns to wax after years spent refining his sound via his superb dm recordings digital imprint. indian time will appeal to fans of the uk funky sound who have missed the distinctive groove and vibe of that scene. on the flip basic soul unit takes things up a notch both in terms of bpm and energy, delivering a techno sureplayer which is bound to find its way into mainroom sets this summer.

one of the most all encompassing electro ep’s to come out of cpu. koova, aka gavin pykerman - one third of the critically acclaimed london modular alliance, steps up with 4 cuts of impeccable electro. side a takes you back to the multi-layered robotic funk of kraftwerk.

release number three for pleasure unit is an in house affair, a rare collaboration on some original material from two of the keyboard mashers. early feedback on les crocodiles has been great and we are currently waiting on a remix from one of our fav scandi producers who offered a mix on hearing a rough draft. three mixes in all le club, acid dub and tropique ambi sunrise.

last summer theo parrish toured europe with a badass band he calls the unit, comprised of himself on keys and vocals, lead vocals by ideeyah, amp fiddler on keys and backing vocals, myele manzanza on drums, mr. mensah on bass and keys, duminie deporres on guitar and dancers jade soul, mai le, dominique choreographed by gehrik. on stage they covered sound signature classics, cuts from theo’s latest lp and a selection of theo’s favorite dancefloor tracks, and the label are excited to be putting out a few of the recordings made during the tour. starting with this two track 12 inch, the a side is a cover of skye’s ain’t no need. for those who know, the b side is a rendition of walking thru the sky from theo parrish’s 1996 baby steps ep.

it was only a matter of time before the prolific electro stalwart scape one aka kurt baggaley made an appearance on cpu. scape ones penchant for sci-fi is reflected in recombination an electronic adventure through space time, stopping briefly for an atomic war. kurts vast experience and collection of analogue synthesizers can be heard to full effect with crushing bass, bubbling leads and arpeggiated sweeps throughout. strong artistic influences on the ep from john foxx, vangelis to autechre (incunabula-esque). all in all a cocktail for the perfect electro cut.

after a small hiatus basic soul unit is back on track, delivering some serious jacking club action! four deep & intense cuts, but all still with that tremendous party vibe... all equally powerfull.

indulge yourself in breakbeat nostalgia expertly crafted for the 21st century. japanese artist missqulater aka keyday kirze delivers 4 tracks of playful rave-influenced braindance. human traffic sampling *bruva gonna take you there* is bursting with the infamous hoover sound from the roland alpha juno (second phase - mentasm et al) and the rest of the ep follows suit with tracks reminiscent of the likes of t99 and djs unite. they rave us reboots a genre from the golden years of electronic music and has lots of fun in the process.

following his appearance (albeit in remixed form) on the debut 12- from keyboard masher s pleasure unit imprint, norwegian eccentric skatebard is given the honour of releasing the label s second ep. apparently all three tracks are vintage cuts from the archive, previously unheard but original recorded straight to tape in his home studio. there s naturally much to enjoy, beginning with the scandolearic-goes-rave synth-house madness of -react 2 rhythm- - all urgent, swirling beats, epic synthesizer melodies and mid- 90s us garage influences. there s more surging, nu-disco goes-house fare to be found on -it goes on & on (the bassline)-, while -pingu- is a joyous chunk of chugging scandolearica blessed with tactile shaker percussion and a jaunty, rock solid synth bassline.

the extended project *inversion* follows his three track release *sleepwalkers* in 2013 and *timelines* in 2014. om unit was schooled via metalheadz. although he earned his stripes via hip hop as dj 2tall it was breakbeat-hardcore and jungle that shaped his attitude towards electronic music and the ferocious trail blazing of the metalheadz crew was an undoubted inspiration. thus it makes perfect sense that his take on this sound, his contribution to moving this sound forward comes via metalheadz. the sonic nature of the project is rooted in london, chicago and detroit- drums, subs and textures.

the index expands into its fourth chapter with a rich collection of tracks from key label artists marcel fengler, thomas hessler, echoplex and vril. label co-ordinator marcel fengler drops scion on the a1, a non-typical, deeper house-influenced jam with a floating, mind-melting soft-focus. abstract, crafty techno meets classic sunday-afternoon vibes in this unique offering. after his wonderful 4-tracker on imf003 promising talent thomas hessler continues his run with the melodic and stark journey track, the escaper. what is initially shrouded in mystery and melancholy opens up into a funky, us vs. uk-styled workout, snapping snares and reduced percussion driving the meandering synth theme. echoplex, who graced imf002, also returns with a suitably trippy and percussive number, entitled the relapse. building into a bleepy, freaky, acidic killer, complete with some cleverly deployed rave vocal samples, filtering in and out of the fluffy aesthetic, the long-serving polish master is still on top form. going for impact and stand-out sound design, vril offers thronwagen, a mesmerising arrangement of synth layers, classic techno stabs and overlapping themes. already well-known for his powerful drums and bottom end control, this more musical piece goes a long way to showcase some of the german producers many other talents.

sync 24 aka phil bolland is taking a break from his cultivated electronics label to get some well deserved binary treatment. starting out on andrea parker’s uk electro imprint touchin’ bass, phil has consistently produced electro of the highest caliber, be it his solo efforts or remixes for morphology and exaltics to name a few. twilight zones - 4 tracks of raw electro with an experimental approach, pushing the genre into what can only be described as ice cold circuit bent funk.
